Farmington surrendered three first period goals and fell to Red Wing, 6-1, Thursday in girls’ hockey action.
The Wingers (4-1-0) received two goals and three assists from Nicole Schammel, who scored both her goals in the opening period. Paige Haley added a goal and three assists. Both are being recruiting by the University of Minnesota.
The Tigers (2-7-0) have now surrendered over 40 shots in the back-to-back games. Haley Doll scored the lone goal at 6:35 of the third period, assisted by Chloe Batta.
Farmington allowed two power play goals in six short handed opportunities while going scoreless in three of their own. The Tigers were a player short for 10 minutes during the second period.
Head coach Jon Holmes said it was tough to watch his team go from the upset win of Eden Prairie on Tuesday to the loss on Thursday
“Being a young team these types of games are sometimes a reality,” Holmes said. “But we certainly do not want to make them a frequent occurrence.”
Farmington has now gone seven-straight games of scoring one goal or fewer. They have yet to score more than two goals in a game this season.
“From here we will have to take this loss as a learning moment,” Holmes said. “Hopefully [we] keep it fresh in our minds to prevent future lapses.”
The Tigers resume their Missota Conference schedule Friday, Dec. 16, when they entertain Shakopee at Schmitz-Maki Arena
