Boys Cross Country: Jury still out

Justin Hyytinen 7th in 140-runner field at Applejack Invitational
According to the results published by race officials the Tigers ranked 17th among 20 teams at the talent-filled Applejack Invitational held Friday at Aronson Park in Lakeville.

Farmington coach Lisa Lippold said the numbers were suspect,. especially since senior Adam Wallenta, on of her team's top runners, was nowhere to be found on the final results sheet.

"I'm still trying to find out what happened," she said.

According to the published final rankings, Rosemount out-pointed White Bear Lake 80-93 for the title with Minnetonka (124), Centennial (141) and Coon Rapids (153) in placed three through five. Without Wallenta's finish in the mix, the Tigers totaled 383 points.

The confusion in the final point tally couldn't overshadow another sterling performance by Tiger sophomore Justin Hyytinen who won a medal for his seventh place finish in a high-octane field of 140 runners. Hyytinen clocked 16:22 over the 5000-meter course in just his third career outing.

Freshman Alex Hart continued his three-meet run as the second Tiger finisher, placing 61st overall in 17:46.1. Tyler Lerbakken cracked the top 100 with a 97th place finish in 18:26.5.

Caleb Eiffert ran 18:42.1 to rank 107th, followed by Sean Dougherty (11th; 18:48.6) and Josh Grimm (115th; 19:06.1).

Lippold said she would continue to pursue the mysterious absence of Wallenta from the results sheet although the Tigers main concern this week will be preparing for Thursday's Pine Island Invitational scheduled for the Pine Island Golf Course.
