Girls X-Country: Packing it

Maricia Pacheco placed sixth overall
Perhaps Farmington should change its name to the Packers...at least for the cross country season.

Running in a tight pack, the Tigers turned in their best performance of the season Thursday afternoon, ranking second in a 10-team field at the Pine Island Invitational run at the Pine Island Golf Course.

Rochester Lourdes won the team title with 52 points, 11 fewer than Farmington. United South Central was third with 72, followed by Chatfield 136, Faribault 139, Stewartville 159, Cannon Falls 186, Zumbrota-Mazeppa/Kenyon-Wanamingo 241, Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson 252 and Pine Island 270.

"I'm excited about our finish," coach Heidi Revels said. "The girls continue to finish close together which is something we have worked hard on the last couple of years."

Sofia Chadwick and Maricia Pacheco led the Tiger pack with fifth and sixth place finishes with respective times of 11:58 and 16:01.2 over the 4000-meter course.

The other three Farmington point-scorers all finished among the top 25: Maria Kiminski  (11th; 16:38.5); Maricella Pacheco (19th: 17:07.7) and Alexis Johnson (22nd; 17:10).

Lexie Laube (26th; 17:15.8) and Sarah Cummings (29th; 17:18.) were not far behind. All seven Farmington runners hit the finishing chute in a tight time span of 1:20.9.

Next up for the Tigers is a Tuesday trip to New Prague for an invitational meet at the New Prague Golf Course.
