Farmington is rapidly becoming a Northfield nemesis.

Last season the Tigers upset the section finalists 1-0 during the regular season. Thursday night in Northfield they made it two in a row with an exciting 2-1 victory.

"I'm thinking this is a first for Farmington boys soccer," coach Julian Buss said. "We've had some tough experiences at Northfield the last couple of years.

"This is such a key game for us because it counts twice for us. They are in both our conference and section. Winning this games help keep our goals of a strong finish in both alive."

Northfield scored 24 minutes into the opening half to take an early lead but the visitors tied the count six minutes later when Urive Omana took a pass from Noah Amundson and blasted a shot from 25 yards away over the reach of the Raider keeper.

Blake Smith provided the game-winner 20 minutes into the second period on a direct kick from 23 yards out.

Keeper Sam Peterson was the hero of the night, piling up a career-high 24 saves in what Buss called "the best game of his career."

"So many of his saves were accomplished by his quick hands, last-second punches and dives and good positioning," Buss said. "He was the star of the game."

Buss said the other key to the win was his team''s ability to move the ball.

"There were some real moments of greatness as the boys put pass after pass together, moving around the field," he said. "I feel as though the last two games we have really begun to come together as a team."

The Tigers put their 5-3-1 season record (1-0-1 in the Missota Conference) on the line Saturday with a non-conference game at section rival  Rochester Mayo.
