Girls X-Country: Tigers 5th at Dakota Classic

Ready, set, go at the Dakota County Classic
Farmington placed three runners among the top 25 to place fifth overall in the nine-team Dakota County Classic run Friday at Eagan.

Host Eagan ran away with the team title with a meet-low total of 28 points. Lakeville South finished a distant second at 49, followed by Forest Lake 86, Eastview 133, Farmington 141, Apple Valley 144, New Prague 151, Hastings 186 and Richfield 288.

Junior Maricia Pacheco (15th; 12:40.9) and sophomore Sofia Chadwick (19th; 12:58.6) earned medals for their opening meet performances. Senior Maria Kiminski ranked 24th with a clocking of 13:06.8 over the 3200-meter course.

Sophomore Alexis Smith (39th; 13:43.5); seventh-grader Sami Hyytinen (44th; 13:58.4); sophomore Sarah Cummings (14:03.4) and Maricella Pacheco (54th; 15:09) completed the Tiger scorecard.

Coach Heidi Revels said that for a first meet she was pleased with her team's effort.

"The thing I noticed most was that they took steps toward running more as a pack," she said. "I think keeping up with and pushing each other will help them as the season progresses."

Next on the schedule is an appearance at the Faribault Invitational Friday, Sept. 6, at Alexander North Park.
