Boys Soccer: Seniors carry the day

Farmington coach Julian Buss said he wanted to recognize his seniors in Thursday's non-conference match with Faribault at Tiger Stadium.

Each of the 12 seniors saw at least 40 minutes of playing time and the juggled line-up provided big-time results in a 5-1 Farmington win.

"These boys were freshmen when I started coaching," Buss said. "They have been such a big part of the program's success and growth. This is my biggest senior class yet and they all played lights out tonight."

The Tigers scored three unanswered goals in the first half , the first on a penalty kick by Jared Wolt. The second two came from Urive Omana and Leslie Adjei, both from corner kicks by Blake Smith.

Second half scores by Jake Bauman and Nicholas Hermosa made it 5-0 before the Falcons notched their first of the night after a scrum in front of the Tiger net with 10 minutes to play.

Four of the Farmington goals came from the senior class, highlighted by Hermosa's first varsity score. Junior Wolt added the fifth and also chimed in with an assist.

A pair of seniors also patrolled the Farmington net. Sam Peterson tallied four saves in the first half and Isaac Toenjes collected seven in the second.

Buss also lauded the play of sophomore Robin DeCastro.

"Robin is so fun to watch battle for each possession," he said. "He is so cool and plays each game with a level-headed intensity that I have rarely seen."

The win lifted the Tigers back above the .500 mark for the season at 4-3-1 and set up a big Missota Conference match-up Thursday at Northfield.
