Boys Soccer: No O in shutout loss to Mayo
The Tigers suffered their fourth shutout of the season in a 4-0 loss to Section 1 rival Rochester Mayo Saturday in Rochester.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 5-4-1 for the season and 3-2 against section competition.
Mayo scored twice in the game's first 10 minutes and and added two more in the second half to coast to the win.
"Mayo was basically a boot and shoot team," Tiger coach Julian Buss said. "They beat us with their shooting ability and a bit of luck. Credit them for continually attacking and getting shots.
"If there is one thing we need to do as a team it is take more shots...We battled and had some very good possession and play throughout the game."
Regular goalkeeper Sam Peterson was unavailable for Saturday's game. Back-up Isaac Toenjes worked the nets in his absence.
"After beating us, I would expect Mayo to be ranked in the top three in the section," Buss said. "If we play well against Owatonna in our last section game I would expect to secure a top four ranking and get a home game in the first round of the playoffs. That's one of our goals for the season."
The Tigers resume Missota Conference play Tuesday with a home match-up with Red Wing. Thursday they head to New Prague for a league game against the Trojans.
