Farmington (3-2) started its Missota Conference season against one off the league's best, dropping a 6-1 road decision to Northfield Thursday afternoon.

"As usual, Northfield is very strong," Farmington coach Jack Olwell said. "I thought this was probably the best team we have faced with good depth top to bottom."

The lone Farmington point came at first doubles where the duo of Clare Padrnos and Lindsey Fairchild pulled out a hard-fought 6-0, 3-6, 7-6 victory.

" We pulled a rabbit out of a hat," Olwell said, "fighting off  two match points after being down 3-5 in the third set...It was the most rewarding match of the day."

Callie Olmscheid (9-1) lost for the first time this season, dropping a 3-6, 4-6 verdict to the Raiders' Rainah Ward at third singles.

"The scores might not indicate it, but we were competitive in most of the matches," Olwell said.

The Tigers will try to get back on the winning track Tuesday when they entertain Red Wing in a Missota Conference dual meet at the Boeckman Middle School courts.
