Kelly Kornmann and Kelli Elmer scored the goals for the Tigers who bounced back from last Saturday's 3-0 loss to top-rated Lakeville North.
"I am pretty confident I know the identity of this team now," coach Rob Carpentier said. "We create a lots of chances, are very good at possession and have a fantastic defense and keeper."
Carpentier said his team seemed to lack what he termed a "killer instinct" in the early going as it failed to capitalize on several scoring chances.
Midway through the first half, he inserted Kornmann into the game and from there things seemed to change.
Kornmann sent a corner kick to Kenya Macias who bounced the ball off a Raider defender and back to Kornmann who drilled a goal into the far left corner of the net from 20 yards away.
"After that, it was game on," Carpentier said. "We started matching Northfield's physicality."
Elmer scored off a deflection from Megan Graham five minutes into the second half to make it 2-0 and the Tigers' physical brand of play dominated the rest of the way.
Farmington owned a 14-4 shot advantage and according to its coach may have turned a corner.
"This is the first time we have beaten Northfield since I've been here," he said. "It feels good to have another hurdle crossed and another goal met."

While Carpentier was satisfied with the first-ever win over Northfield, he said it was "big but not huge."
"Chaska is tough and Shakopee may be the game of the year," he said of upcoming conference games.
Saturday the Tigers take on Rochester Mayo at Tiger Stadium in a game with Section 1 implications. Tuesday they entertain Red Wing and Thursday they head to New Prague in a pair of conference contests.
