2012 Kennedy Invitational champions |
Saturday coach Jen Marshall's team made it three straight championships at the six-team meet with another dominant performance.
Farmington amassed 590 points in the 12-event meet. Minneapolis Southwest/Henry was well back in second at 525, followed by Bloomington Jefferson 377, Red Wing 363, Eau Claire North (Wisconsin) 290 and host Bloomington Kennedy 163.
Last year we won it by over 300 points," Marshall said. "Keeping that in mind, we really mixed up the events the girls swam. I'm very proud of their versatility as they had some great performances in coming home with the hardware.
"There are still plenty of little things that need to be worked on and perfected in an effort to produce faster times. They're starting to realize the importance of them as the season progresses."
The Tigers scored four first place finishes and their depth enabled them to pile up points with other top five efforts.
Not surprisingly, all-stater Kaitlyn O'Reilly played a major role in the championship effort with four first place showings. She won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and also swam legs on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
O'Reilly teamed up with Kirsten Kracke, Chloe Holton and Robin Ellis to win the 200 free relay and Kracke, Cora Ruzicka and Ellie Sundet to take the 400 free relay.
The 200 medley relay quartet of Kracke, Ruzicka, Sundet and Chelsea Gehrke finished runner-up as did Kendall Novak on the one-meter board.
Ruzicka also captured a pair of third place medals in the 200 medley and 100 backstroke.
The Tigers took fourth in four events: Gehrke in the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly; Holton in the 500 free and Tori Sontag in diving.
Sundet scored fifth place points in the 50 freestyle and Melanie Brothers placed fifth in the diving competition.
The Tigers get back in the pool Thursday with a Missota Conference dual with Chaska at the Dodge Middle School pool.
