The loss to its Section 1 rival dropped Farmington's season record to 9-3-2; 5-0 in Missota Conference play.
"We didn't play badly, but we never had the electricity we've had in other games," Tiger coach Rob Carpentier said. "We never fired. We never played with a sense of urgency."
Kelli Elmer put the visitors on the board early in the first period and according to Carpentier, that's where his team squandered a golden opportunity.
"We should have put the game away in the first 15 minutes," he said. "We hit the bar twice within five minutes."
Owatonna countered with a goal four minutes before intermission and then claimed the win with the late second half score.
The Tigers outshot the Huskies 16-15 but Carpentier noted that most of the good Farmington scoring opportunities came early.
"Nine of them came in the first 14 minutes of the game," he said.
Carpentier said his team needs to put the loss in its rear-view mirror and start focusing on next Tuesday's home showdown with Holy Angels, a tilt that will likely determine the 2012 conference champion.
"This game changes nothing about the importance of the Holy Angels game," he said. "That is our first priority right now."
