Lakeville North scored two minutes into the second half and held on for a 1-0 win over Farmington in the Section 1AA quarterfinals played Thursday, Oct. 14, in Lakeville.
The Panthers controlled the time of possession and used a physical defense to limit the Tigers scoring opportunities.
"We had some chances but we were bested by the North defenders," coach Julian Buss said. "They were physical but not cheap. Our direct kick opportunities were limited."
Junior goalie Chad Stivers had another strong outing in the losing effort, stopping 16 of 17 shots, including several rebounds from close range.
The loss left the Tigers with a final season record of 6-11. Lakeville advanced to the section semifinals with a 7-5-5 mark.
"I think the boys were disappointed with the loss," Buss said, "but overall they were happy with the way they played strong all game.
"We know that we can compete with anyone out there. Farmington boys soccer is moving in the right direction."
