Rochester Century, the fifth-rated Class AA team in the state, eliminated Farmington from the Section 1 team tournament last week 7-0.
Thursday, Oct. 14, the Panthers gave the Tigers a second dose of season-ending medicine when they defeated all four Farmington entries in the opening round of the section individual tourney.
"It was odd to draw all of their players in the first round," coach Jack Olwell said. "We competed hard but Century is just a very good team."
In singles play, Maggie Rudorfer lost 0-6, 0-6 to Century's Jessie Aney and Meghan Lindstrom fell by the same score to Kelsey Frechette, the runner-up in the 2009 state tournament.
In doubles play, the Tiger tandem of Danielle Froehling and Katie Burgess played what Olwell called their best match of the year in a 1-6, 1-6 loss.
"Both Danielle and Katie hit the ball exceptionally well," he said. "Danielle's forehand was on fire."
Brianne Kashak and Emilee Shearer, the other Tiger doubles team, lost in straight sets, 0-6, 0-6.
