Tiger coach Julian Buss said he was worried about his team's trip to New Prague on Thursday, Oct. 8, to face the winless Trojans in the last game of the conference season.
"New Prague is still making the difficult transition to varsity soccer," Buss said. "They hadn't won a game and hadn't scored many goals.
"But it was a home game for them and chance for their seniors to pull off an upset. An away game against a team desperate for a win is always difficult."
The Trojans put up a good fight but the visitors dominated play, piling up a season-high 17 shots on goal on the way to a 3-0 win.
Tyler Petter-McCauley (from Justen Thelen) scored his first varsity career goal with eight minutes remaining in the first half to give his team the lead.
Thelen (from Brandon Scott) and Elijah Kierski (from Sam Leske) added second half goals for the winners.
After back-to-back stellar performances, Tiger goalkeeper Chad Stivers all but had the night off as the Trojans finished the night without a shot on goal. Nonetheless, Stivers posted his second shutout of the season.
The Tigers close the regular season Saturday, Oct. 9, with a home game against Apple Valley, the state's top-rated team.
Section 1AA play begins Tuesday, October 12, against an opponent and at a location to to be determined by a seeding process that takes place over the weekend.
