Farmington won one of four matches at the talent-filled Burnsville Invitational held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 8-9, at Burnsville High School.
The Tigers started the meet on a positive note, outpointing Chisago Lakes 20-25, 25-15, 15-10. In the the second round they played well against host Burnsville but lost two close games, 23-25, 22-25.
In Saturday's rematch with Missota Conference rival Chanhassen, a team that had won the previous match between the two teams 3-0, the locals won the first game 25-18 before falling 18-25 and 13-15 in the next two. Farmington closed out the tourney with a 16-25, 22-25 loss to Totino Grace.
Earlier in the week, the girls roared to a 25-18 win in Northfield (15-4) in game one of a Missota Conference match, but then lost the next three 18-25, 21-25 and 13-25.
"We just couldn't recover mentally after we lost a close one in game three," Woody said. "The girls played hard but they were mentally defeated before game four even began.
"We are truly talented enough to compete with every team in our section but we have to believe that when we lose a close one we can come back and win the next one."
The 1-4 week left the Tigers with a season mark of 8-17 as they head into the final week of the regular season. Tuesday, Oct. 12, they entertain conference newcomer Chaska and Thursday they head to New Prague to take on the Trojans.
