Rosemount scored twice in each half on the way to a 4-0 win over Farmington in the opening round of the Section 3AA tournament held Tuesday, Oct. 12, in Rosemount. The Irish had defeated the Tigers 2-0 in a non-conference game earlier in the season.
"We played as well as we did in the first game," Tiger coach Rob Carpentier said. "We actually scored the first goal but it was disallowed...The big thing though was we couldn't overcome the loss of two of our regulars who were out with injuries."
Carpentier was referring to senior captain Shelby Calhoun and junior goalkeeper Taylor Meyer who were both out with ankle problems.
"Alex Frost was gallant in goal for us," Carpentier said, "but she is 5-6 and Taylor is 6-0. Throw in the difference in wing span and that makes it tough."
Farmington actually finished with more shots and time of possession than it did in the first meeting of the two teams, but couldn't find the back of the net.
The Irish lead 2-0 at intermission and then added two more goals in the final 10 minutes when the Tigers tried to ramp up the offensive pressure.
The loss dropped Farmington's final season record to 9-8-1, the second straight winning season for the Tigers who placed a best-ever third place in the Missota Conference with a 4-2-1 mark.
