Apple Valley used a three-goal second half to down Farmington 5-1 Saturday afternoon, Oct. 9, at Tiger Stadium.
The Eagles led 2-0 at intermission before Laine Trowbridge scored off a corner kick by Shelby Calhoun to cut the deficit in half.
Apple Valley responded 15 seconds later, however, and later added two more scores to win going away.
"The shots were about even and offensively we played fine," coach Rob Carpentier said. "The defense had its worst game of the year. Four of their five goals came on counters. That tells you we had the ball a lot...We just played 'ole' defense. That about sums it up."
Tough luck and injuries also played a role in the loss. The Tigers missed three shots from point blank range in the first half and goaltender Taylor Meyer and co-captain Calhoun both left the contest with ankle injuries.
Carpentier said he is expecting Meyer back for next Tuesday's section opener but Calhoun's sprain suffered late in the game looked more serious and makes her questionable for the first post-season game.
The Tigers finished the regular season with a 9-7-1 record, their second straight winning season.
Farmington earned the fifth seed in the competitive Section 3AA field and will open post-season play Tuesday night, Oct. 12, at Rosemount.
