Erik Holmstrom was low Tiger scorer with 79 |
The Tigers finished in a seventh place tie with Shakopee at the eight-team Chanhassen Invitational played Monday afternoon at Deer Run Golf Club but coach Jon Holmes said he saw some positives is his team's play.
"We played up and down today," he said "with some modest improvement from our last outing. There are still too many gaps that need to be filled though if we truly want upward mobility in our conference and section."
Missota Conference contender New Prague won the meet with 291 strokes. Chaska and Chanhassen, two other conference schools, finished at 306 and 307 respectively. Orono also totaled 307, followed by Winona 308, Edina 309, Farmington 329 and Shakopee 329.
Eighth grader Erik Holmstrom was back in the lineup for the Tigers and led the team with a round of 79. Tommy May finished at 81, Ryan Kelly 83, Jake Hanson 86, Tony Lalani 88 and Mitch Reed 91.
"Erik has been hitting the ball pretty solid so far," Holmes said. "As he gets more comfortable he will learn how to score better even when he's not hitting the ball well. That comes only with experience."
Tuesday the Tigers open Missota Conference play with a league get-together at Stonebrooke Golf Club.
"All 12 players will be on the same course under the same conditions," Holmes said. "The pressure will be on some of the seniors to turn their games up a couple of notches."
