Bennett Lagro
6-7(3), 6-4, 10-7 (tie-breaker) winner at No. 4 singles
Farmington opened its Missota Conference season the hard way with a trip to Red Wing to face a team expected to battle for the league title.
The Wingers lived up to their reputation with a convincing 6-1 win.
"They are the strongest team we have faced the year," coach Jack Olwell said, "especially at the top of their lineup where they return the top two players in the conference."
The lone Farmington point came at fourth singles where Bennett Lagro upped his record to 4-1 with a hard-fought 6-7(3), 6-4, 1-7 (tie-breaker) win.
"Overall we were on the defensive from the beginning," Olwell said. "It wasn't for lack of effort. In fact, in all of the singles matches, most points were fairly long with Red Wing gradually building an advantage."
The Tigers (1-4) close out their busy week Thursday with a home-court match with conference rival Chanhassen at the Boeckman Middle School courts.
