Ivan Rodriguez
6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 3 singles
Despite a 5-2 non-conference loss Monday night at Simley, Tiger coach Jack Olwell said his team put in a good effort under some trying circumstances.
"It was very windy and cold with a 20 mile per hour cross wind," he said. "The players had to be dialed in from start to finish...Overall I was pleased with our level of play and competitiveness."
The Tiger points came in singles play where Ivan Rodriguez and Bennett Lagro each remained unbeaten for the season at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions.
Rodriguez won a see-saw 6-3,6-3 match while Largo posted his second consecutive three-set victory 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
"Ivan put the hammer down at crunch time in both sets," Olwell said, "and Bennett closed out his win by taking the last four games.
Blake Olmscheid lost 4-6, 2-6 at first singles and Ben Cline dropped a 2-6, 3-6 decision in the No. 2 match.
After a lackluster opening day where the three doubles team managed to win just one game, all three Tiger pairings played better.
The duos of Tyler Olson/Jeff Zakoski, Austin Tremmel/Trent Kortenbusch and Austin Rau/Jon Zakoski were all competitive two-set losses.
The Tigers hit the court again Wednesday when they entertain Park of Cottage Grove at Boeckman Middle School.
