Girls Golf: On the upswing

The Tigers trailed the field at the first Missota Conference meet of the season played Monday afternoon at Fountain Valley Golf Course, but first year coach Jon Stock wasn't as worried about the team finish as he was the individual improvement of his players.

"The girls showed a lot of improvement from their first meet," Stock said. "We dropped 90 strokes from our team score last Saturday...It was a beautiful day and everything went well for us."

Red Wing won the meet with a low total of 333 strokes, two shots in front of runner-up New Prague. Chanhassen totaled 350, Chaska 355, Northfield 372, Shakopee 393, Holy Angels 395 and Farmington 455.

Brianna Swenson kept her spot atop the Tiger score card with a round of 101. Amanda Steinkeoway shot 113, Kaitlin Jokinen 114, Megan Elliott 127, Alexis House 129 and Halea Wright 136.

The Tigers will be looking to shave even more strokes from their team total next Wednesday at the second conference meet slated for Dahlgreen Golf Course.
