Boys Tennis: Singles sweep fuels 6-1 win over Kennedy

Blake Olmscheid 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles
Farmington dominated the singles competition, sweeping all four matches, on the way to a convincing 6-1 win over Bloomington Kennedy Wednesday afternoon at the Boeckman Middle School courts.

"We were stronger and more consistent from top to bottom," coach Jack Olwell said.

The singles lineup of Blake Olmscheid, Ben Cline, Ivan Rodriguez and Bennett Lagro was dominant, losing a total of just three games.

Rodriguez and Lagro pitched identical 6-0, 6-0 shutouts while Olmscheid and Cline won by respective 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-2 counts.

The doubles matches were much more competitive with the No. 1 Farmington duo of Tyler Olson and Jeff Zakoski and No. 3 team of Austin Rau and Jon Zakoski each winning in three sets. Olson and Zakoski prevailed 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 and Zakoski and Rau  won 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.

"The third doubles match looked like it was going to slip away," Olwell said, "but Jon and Austin came back from 2-5 in the tie-breaker to win it."

Kennedy scored its point in the second doubles match where the Tiger tandem of Austin Tremmel and Trent Kortenbusch lost 3-6, 1-6.
