Ben Cline 6-3, 6-1 winner at second singles |
After the first set of the seven varsity matches the Tigers were looking good. They were playing solid tennis and had a 1-0 lead in four of them.
Unfortunately, things went downhill from there in a 6-1 loss to Chanhassen Monday afternoon at the Boeckman Middle School courts.
Farmington played competitively but in the end it was an inability to win the close ones that cost the Tigers their first Missota Conference win of the season. Chanhassen won all five matches that went three sets.
The Farmington point came at second singles where Ben Cline cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory that featured a rash of service aces.
Ivan Rodriguez and Bennett Lagro each lost tough three-set affairs at third and fourth singles and all three doubles teams (Tyler Olson/Jeff Zakoski; Austin Tremmel/Trent Kortenbusch and Austin Rau/Jon Zakoski) lost in three sets.
"The good news is that we never gave up," Tiger coach Jack Olwell said. "We kept fighting back."
The Tigers are at home the next two days, hosting Shakopee Tuesday and Bloomington Kennedy Wednesday.
