Farmington made it two in a row Monday afternoon with a chilly and wind-blown 8-1 Missota Conference win over Holy Angels at Tiger Field.
"It was windy and very cold," Tiger coach Paul Harrington said. "It was a mentally tough day on defense and at the plate, but our girls battled through it and remained focused."
For the second game in a row the Tigers had to come from behind as the Stars drew first blood with a run in the top of the fourth inning.
Farmington countered with a three-run bottom of the fourth on a walk, run-scoring base hits by Taylor Haakana and Erin Wurst and a pair of Stars errors.
The winners sealed the deal with four more scores in the home half of the fifth. Allie Rice smacked a rbi double and Taylor Yousse and Amber Doyle each drove in a run with singles.
A single by Brooke Searles, a sacrifice bunt by Toni Hunsinger and a base hit by Rice produced an insurance score in the sixth.
Ashley Betzold, who started the fourth and fifth inning rallies with walks, pitched a five-hit complete game for the Tigers. The junior right-hander struck out eight batters to run her two-game total to 17.
Brooke Searles 2-4, stolen base, run
Rice and Searles each collected a pair of hits for the winners. Rice knocked in a pair of runs and pinch-runners Molly Berdan and Hailey Monroe combined to score four times.
Harrington's emphasis on defense continued to pay dividends as Farmington committed just one fielding miscue.
The Tigers will put their two-game win streak on the line Thursday afternoon when they entertain Northfield at Tiger Field.
