Boys Lacrosse: High-scoring Rockets edge Tigers

Once-beaten Rochester John Marshall ran its season record to 9-1 with a narrow 12-11 win over the Tigers Wednesday night at Rochester Regional Stadium.

Farmington (6-4) led 3-1 after one period and 6-4 at halftime but couldn't hold off the high-scoring Rockets who are averaging 11 goals a game this season.

"By far our most disappointing loss of the season," coach Paul Sorensen said. "Even without Jake Bauman, Nathan Brunnelle, and Caleb Hakala (in the lineup), we had our opportunities to run away with this but just didn't finish.

"A very tough sectional loss. We win playing as a team and we lose playing as individuals."

Matt Ackerman scored four times and Brendon Berg recorded his second consecutive hat trick to account for seven of the Farmington goals. Trevor Howard and Michael Thompson each scored twice and Chris Fitzgibbons netted his first varsity goal in the losing effort.

Howard added five assists for a seven-point night. Ackerman had two assists and Berg one.

Netminder Charlie Weierke faced 23 shots and finished with 11 saves.

The Tigers hope to build some momentum for the post-season next week when they close the regular season with a pair of contests, Monday at Holy Angels and Tuesday at home versus section rival Rochester Mayo.

"We need to bond together and forge through," Sorensen said.
