Boys Lacrosse: Stars halt Tiger winning streak

A penalty-filled second half put the Tigers on the defensive in a 10-4 loss to Holy Angels Tuesday night at Tiger Stadium.

The defeat halted Farmington's four-game winning streak and left Paul Sorensen's team with a 5-2 season record.

"We simply took away too many penalties," Sorensen said. "An upper echelon team like Holy Angels is going to take advantage...and they did."

The contest was actually two games in one with Holy Angels holding a slim 5-4 lead at the halftime break. The second half, however, belonged to the Stars.

Matt Ackerman netted a pair of goals and Brendon Berg and Trevor Howard scored one apiece for Farmington in the losing effort. Howard and Berg each added a pair of assists.

Charlie Weierke worked the nets for the Tigers, finishing with six saves.

"We got absolutely killed on ground balls, especially in the second half," Sorensen said. "We have the talent to compete with them but not with one less player on the field nine times during the game."

Sorensen said the good thing about the loss is that his team has shown it has a short memory.

"We are already preparing for our game on Thursday," he said.

The Tigers entertain Chaska/Chanhassen Thursday evening at Tiger Stadium.
