Ashley Betzold struck out a season-high 14 batters and didn't allow an earned run in a 9-2 Missota Conference win over Holy Angels Tuesday afternoon at Taft Park in Richfield.

With the victory and Northfield's upset of Chanhassen, Farmington moved into a three-way tie with the Storm and Shakopee atop the league standings.

"Both teams were generous," coach Paul Harrrington said of the win over the Stars. "We made four errors but they made seven.

"The good thing is we put the ball in play and forced them into errors. We only went down on strikes three times."

The Tigers scored seven of their runs in the first four innings. Amber Doyle's RBI single and a misplayed fly ball produced two runs in the first and a double by Taylor Yousse and  single by Toni Hunsinger made it 3-0 in the second.

The winners added a pair of unearned runs in the third and then put up two more scores in the fourth on just one-hit, an infield single by Molly Berdan.

The Stars scored their two runs, both unearned, in the home half of the fifth. Farmington came back in the sixth to score two of its own thanks to a passed ball and two Holy Angels errors.

Brooke Searles had two of the seven Farmington hits and scored a run. No other Tiger had more than one hit.

Betzold dominated the Stars lineup, allowing just three hits in posting her eighth victory of the season.

"It was a good win," Harrington said, "but we need to get better both offensively and defensively soon. Section play is only three weeks away."

Thursday the Tigers travel to Northfield for a re-match with the Raiders. Betzold struck out seven and allowed just two hits in a 5-0 Farmington win when the teams meet earlier in the season at Tiger Field.
