When Ben Kampf graduated from Farmington High School in 2005 he took his passion for running with him. The former state track and cross country meet qualifier moved on to the University of Minnesota where he ran for the Gopher men's track and cross country teams.
After completing an undergraduate degree in kinesiology, Kampf enrolled in graduate school at the University of Minnesota where he will complete a Master's Degree in Athletic Administration this winter.
Despite his busy academic schedule, Kampf has also found time to keep up his running regimen. Last Saturday, August 28, he led a field of 484 runners in winning the Rochester Half-Marathon. His 1:09.45 finishing time was more than a minute faster than second place finisher Ben Marvin of Rochester.
Kampf used the Rochester race as a tune-up for the 2010 Twin Cities Marathon which he plans to run in October.
Between now and then, the former Oscar Lubke Award winner will also find time to wed Heather Dorniden of Rosemount, a former University of Minnesota women's track all-American currently running as a professional for Team USA Minnesota.
Kampf is the son of John and Lori Kampf of Farmington.
