Winona scored the deciding goal 3:39 into the first of two five-minute overtime periods to hand the Tigers a 2-1 loss Thursday, Sept. 2, at Tiger Stadium.
"We lost to them 8-0 last year so we played them much better this time," Tiger coach Julian Buss said. "I feel we were the more talented team but we were unable to capitalize on some pretty good scoring opportunities."
The Winhawks broke a scoreless tie with a goal 12 minutes into the second half before Farmington's Brandon Scott evened the count with an unassisted score with 8:39remaining in regulation.
"This was a tough loss because both the boys and I feel we were the better team," Buss said. "Periods of weak communication and lack of movement certainly didn't help."
With the loss the Tigers dropped to 2-1 for the season, all against Section 1AA opponents.
