The Farmington boys used a strong performance by senior Elliot Fenske and a surprising one from freshman Dan Block to forge an eighth place finish at the the 32-team Redbird Invitational held Sept. 10 at the Montgomery Golf Course in Montgomery.
Fenske again ran with the lead pack, ranking sixth in the 226-runner field with a finishing time of 16:52.6 over the hilly, 5000-meter course.
"Elliot had a very solid race," Revels said. "Breaking 17:00 on that type of course was impressive."
Linclon Kirchoff and Carl Elmer held on to the second and third spots in the Tiger pecking order with respective times of 18:22.4 and 18:32.4. Kirchoff finished 48th and Elmer 55th.
Block, who earned a spot in the varsity lineup with a strong showing in last week's junior varsity race, finished 96th in 19:18.5. Ben Olson was right behind in 97th place in 19:19.5; Josh Ruthenbeck placed 159th in 20:28.3.
Chad Retterath, who placed fourth for the Tigers in the season opener, started the race but did not finish because of a nagging leg injury.
"We had a span of 2:27 between out No. 1 and No. 5 runners," Revels said. "That's much too high. I'm hoping with some more training we can make a push in the coming weeks."
