In what coach Rob Carpentier called "a classic", the Tigers pulled out a 4-3 non-conference win over Henry Sibley Monday, Sept. 27, in West St. Paul.
Nadia Lorencz scored her second goal of the contest with just 1.6 seconds remaining in regulation to give Farmington its fourth win in the last five games and raise its season record to 7-4.
"It was huge what the girls did the last 40 minutes," Carpentier said. "From an effort standpoint, it was the best half I've seen from us."
The same could not have been said of the opening 40 minutes where only the solid goalkeeping of Taylor Meyer kept the Tiger deficit to 2-0. Carpentier called it the worst half of soccer his team has played in his two years here.
But the girls re-grouped over the break and started the second period with a roar.
A goal by Ashley Kimmel (from Devyn Alberts) started the comeback just 45 seconds into the half and two-and-a-half minutes later Janine Miller scored her first career varsity goal to tie the score.
Sibley didn't roll over, however, scoring a go-ahead goal with 14 minutes remaining in regulation.
With 4:30 left, Lorencz took a pass from Kimmel and banged it home to re-tie the count and set up an apparent overtime.
With 28 seconds to go, the Tigers put on a final rush, culminating in a Kelli Harstad shot that was blocked straight up in the air. Lorencz managed to run it down and blast it by the Sibley netminder as the clock ticked down to give her team the exhilarating win.
"I am so proud of the girls and the character they displayed," Carpentier said. "What a comeback!"
The Tigers don't have much time to celebrate the win. Tuesday, Sept. 28, they entertain Holy Angels in a Missota Coference showdown at Tiger Stadium.
"Now let's see if we are energized or drained by the Sibley game," Carpentier said. "This is a very important game if we are going to win the Missota."
