Katie Habeck turned in another stellar individual performance to lead the Tigers to a 3-2 comeback win over Red Wing Thursday, Sept. 10, in the their Missota Conference opener at Tiger Gym.
Farmington won the first game 25-21 before falling 25-16 and 25-23 in the next two. The Tigers rallied for a 25-20 victory in the fourth contest before prevailing 15-8 in a deciding fifth game.
"Anytime you can have a young team rally and come from behind, it's a good thing," coach Mike Woody said. "This will allow us to truly believe it can be done the next time we are down in a match."
Habeck, one the the best middle hitters in Minnesota, showed her versatility by filling up the box score.
The 6-2 senior lead the team with 28 kills, 26 digs, 20 service points and 20 serve receptions. She also had four blocks and a trio of service aces.
"Katie is totally the difference maker," Woody said. "She continues to play very well from everywhere on the court. She is also balancing high expectations and patience with the new group of players she has around her."
Laura Steege finished with 12 digs, 10 serve receptions and six kills while Jordan Bridges totaled seven kills and six blocks. Brook King chipped in with 20 serve receptions and three service aces, and Haylee Lundquist had a team-high 16 set assists.
Earlier in the week, the Tigers played well but came up short in a non-conference 24-26, 21-25, 24-26 home court loss to Rosemount.
The split leaves the Tigers with a 3-2 record heading into a busy week of play.
They host Albert Lea, Monday, Sept. 13, before traveling to Chanhassen for a Missota Conference match on Thursday. Saturday they host their annual invitational tournament at Tiger Gym.
